Mykonos Party Tips: What First-Timers Need to Know

When to go out, how to get home, what to wear, what it costs — the practical guide to partying in Mykonos without rookie mistakes.

The night starts late — really late

Mykonos runs on its own clock. Dinner at 10pm is normal, bars fill around midnight and clubs — including our WE ❤ MYK Club — only hit their stride from 1am onwards. Don't turn up at 11pm expecting a full dancefloor: do it the local way with a long dinner, a sunset cocktail and a slow build into the night.

Book ahead in high season

In July and August, everything good sells out: club nights, sunbeds, dinner tables, even taxis by phone. Buy your party tickets online before you travel — our events page shows live availability — and sort out your beach spot at least a day or two ahead if you're heading somewhere busy. Spontaneity is lovely; in Mykonos high season, it's also expensive.

Getting home: the taxi problem

Mykonos famously has only a small fleet of taxis for the whole island, and at 4am outside a club they are gold dust. Your options: stay central in Chora and walk home, use the night buses on the main beach routes in peak season, book a private transfer in advance for big nights out, or split a ride with your group. Whatever you choose, decide before you go out — and keep some cash, as cards don't always work in a Mykonos taxi.

Dress codes & budget

Mykonos dresses up: smart-casual gets you everywhere, beachwear stays on the beach, and for our White Party on Saturdays the white dress code is part of the show — pack at least one white outfit. Budget-wise, be realistic: this is one of the most expensive islands in Greece, and a drink on the smartest stretches of sand costs serious money. Balance the week — a couple of glamour days, a couple of simple beach-taverna days, and club nights where the entry ticket is the fair deal it should be.

Look after yourself

Sun all day plus dancing all night is a demanding combination. Hydrate constantly, respect the meltemi wind (it flips umbrellas and moods), keep your phone charged for the ride home, and pace yourself — the best Mykonos weeks are marathons, not sprints. If you need help planning yours, our chat assistant and WhatsApp line know every event on the island.
